In Amsterdam, a new residential area is developed, known as Houthaven. The cooling is provided by an innovative concept: cold from the surface water, the river IJ. The heating for this area is provided by a combination of heat sources and distributed by a district heating system. One part is delivered by the incineration of rest waste and the other part by the river IJ as heat source. In the residential area are solar panels installed to increase the sustainable outlook and making the area climate neutral. In total 2,200 new houses will be made on 7 created islands.
In 2011 IF started with a feasibility study and the pre-design of the ATES and Surface Water Energy systems. The permits have been successfully requested by IF. In close cooperation with Nuon Vattenfall, the ATES and Surface Water Energy systems had been designed in detail by IF. During the realization of the systems, we have done the supervision and the commissioning of the systems. Later, we’ll start with the design of the next phase that will consist of a separate ATES and Surface Water Energy system.
