The composition of underground layers can vary considerably. The way in which groundwater flows through the earth, the characteristics of this water and the soil composition are studied in order to determine its suitability for energy storage or other related solutions, such as vertical infiltration. Advantages Knowledge of hydrogeology gives us practical insight into the suitability of specific areas for energy storage or drinking water extraction, for example. Hydrogeological models such as Modflow, Microfem and MLU are used to calculate the effects of a particular procedure. Impact assessments must not be forgotten – they are essential when applying for a permit and making the impact calculations used in an Environmental Risk Assessment.
| | Our activities We employ more than 20 hydrogeologists, who have been involved in more than 1,000 studies relating to energy storage. We are also involved in the implementation of energy storage systems. As a result, there is a considerable amount of feedback between theory and practice, which gives us unique knowledge of the hydrogeological conditions around the world. Like to know more?
