Engineering the earth

Reservoir modelling.
Our hydrothermal model delivers an optimal well design.

In order to make geothermics possible, a water flow is created. By extraction and infiltration of water in an aquifer, a flow of groundwater is created between two wells. An extraction well and an infiltration well are placed at a specific distance from each other, which we calculate using a hydrothermal model.

Advantages
In order to create an optimal well design, it’s important to know how the water in a potential reservoir behaves. Our hydrothermal model and other measurement and calculation models ensure an accurate result. The calculation can be done at various stages of the project, as part of the feasibility study for the initial well design, for example, or to optimise the design following a comprehensive geological analysis.

Our activities
We use the hydrothermal model HSTWin, among others. We were involved in developing this program, which has been used for many years to model heat transport in underground energy storage systems. The program is extremely well-suited for calculating temperature changes and for modelling geothermic reservoirs.
