High-Temperature Storage
Storing water at high temperatures for redelivery

Many processes release heat that is not used effectively. These are often continuous processes that produce heat day and night, summer and winter, including residual heat at temperatures above 70°C. It’s worthwhile storing this heat underground for use later on. In addition, summer heat can be used for heating in the winter.

Advantages
High-temperature heat storage in the ground saves a great deal of energy and is very environmentally friendly. A key advantage is that warm water can be delivered without the use of a heat pump. High-temperature heat storage can also be used to de-ice roads, bridges and runways. A number of successful high-temperature heat storage pilot projects have been completed in the Netherlands. In some cases, heat is stored at depths of more than 500 metres.

Our activities
We have a great deal of experience of hydrogeological and geothermal technology as well as reservoir thermal and chemical modelling We also model the release of heat to roads, bridges and runways.
